Street Sense gets first winner in Japan

Kentucky Derby (G1)-winning champion STREET SENSE (Street Cry [Ire]) registered his first winner in grand style when his two-year-old colt Street Hunter romped by eight lengths in Kyoto. Bred by Northern Racing in Japan, Street Hunter had finished second on his debut at Hanshin Racecourse before spread-eagling the field in Friday's six-furlong weight-for-age race.

Street Hunter is the first foal from multiple stakes queen Quick Little Miss (Freud), who also placed in the 2006 Hollywood Starlet S. (G1) and Oak Leaf S. (G1). Sold for $1.2 million in foal to Street Sense at Keeneland November in 2008, Quick Little Miss is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Sky Diva (Sky Mesa) from the immediate family of multiple Grade 1 star and $1.9 million-earner Pure Clan (Pure Prize).

Street Sense, the champion two-year-old colt of 2006, is the only horse to turn the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1)/Kentucky Derby double. A homebred racing for Jim Tafel, the Carl Nafzger trainee broke his maiden in his second career start, then checked in third in the Arlington-Washington Futurity (G3) and Breeders' Futurity (G1).
