Cam Allard’s Stormy Novel moved with a wide bid around the turn before opening a daylight lead entering the stretch and holding off all foes to capture the $70,000 Miss Woodford Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday by a half-length.

Trained by John Servis, Stormy Novel covered the six furlongs over a fast main track in 1:10 3/5 and returned $16.60, $8.20 and $4.40 in the field of 11 3-year-old fillies.  Who’s In Town closed to complete the $106.20 exacta and paid $6.80 to place and $4 to show.  Discreetly Elusive was another head back in third, good for a $3.40 show mutuel.

“I knew John Servis had her coming into this race good,” said winning jockey Kendrick Carmouche.  “He told me to just tuck in, but coming from the 11 hole, I just wanted to not be too wide.  That’s pretty much the trip I got.  I might have moved a little early around the quarter pole but she kept running from there.  I heard them coming at the end, but she never stopped.”

A daughter of Bernardini from the Forestry mare Teton National, Stormy Novel sports a record of 3-2-0 from eight starts, good for earnings of $132,340.  The Miss Woodford was the filly’s first stakes victory.
