StarLadies
Racing, Starlight Racing’s new all-female partnership, is pleased to
announce that it has designated New Vocations, a retraining and adoption
program for retired racehorses, to receive a portion of earnings from
its 2013 acquisitions.
Conceived by Barbara Lucarelli and Laurie Wolf, two of Starlight’s
founding partners who will also serve as managing partners, StarLadies
Racing will consist of 6-10 partners and approximately 6 fillies
purchased from the 3 premier yearling sales: Fasig-Tipton in July,
Saratoga Select in August, and Keeneland in September. 2013 will be the
inaugural year for the StarLadies partnership. StarLadies has chosen to
donate 1% of earnings from its 2013 purchases to New Vocations.
New
Vocations first opened their barn doors in 1992 to retired racehorses
looking for new careers. Starting with a single farm in Dayton, Ohio the
program has grown to six facilities in Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio,
Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Serving over 40 racetracks, New Vocations
works directly with owners and trainers in need of an aftercare program
for horses leaving the track. Currently, the program leads the nation in
racehorse adoptions, placing over 400 horses into new homes each year.
The program has a sound adoption system in place that is proven to move a
large number of horses in a rather short period of time. Their focus is
on adoption verses retirement, believing that each horse deserves to
have an individual home and a purpose. For more information visit www.newvocations.org.
"There
are so many worthy charities from which to choose, but it was important
to us to support a program that provides for the horses or people in
horse racing,” said StarLadies Co-Managing Partner Laurie Wolf. “All of
the partners conferred, and we all agreed that New Vocations is a worthy
organization doing some really wonderful work re-homing our retired
racehorses. We're thrilled to be able to offer some support to their
efforts."
“We
are very honored to have StarLadies Racing supporting our efforts at
New Vocations. We truly appreciate their support as times are tough in
the aftercare industry because there are so many horses needing our
services,” shared New Vocations Program Director Anna Ford. “I’ve had
the pleasure of knowing Barb and Laurie for many years and you couldn’t
ask for two classier ladies. We look forward to watching their horses
run and wish them much success.”
