Stakes at Hastings is abandoned after jockey falls during race
A stakes race at Hastings in Vancouver reportedly was abandoned before it could be finished Saturday after leading jockey Amadeo Pérez fell and could not be removed from the track before the field came back around.
According to Daily Racing Form, the US$35,805 Fall Classic Handicap was declared no contest. Equibase had charts for the other five races on the Saturday card but none for that one. Video replays of the race were pulled from advanced-deposit wagering sites.
Pérez was taken to a nearby hospital, but there was no report about his condition.

Pérez fell off defending winner Apprehend midway through the 1 3/8-mile race, according to DRF. Because the race goes more than two laps around the five-furlong track, the five horses still running would have passed the spill one more time. The medical team still was examining Pérez, so stewards called on track announcer Dan Jukich to plea with the riders to pull up their mounts. They did so just as they reached the top of the stretch.
There was no immediate word about the condition of Apprehend, a 6-year-old Arrogate horse owned by Peter Redekop and trained by Barbara Heads. He has a record of 17: 8-3-0 and earnings of $319,620.
Run Rudolf, the 4-5 favorite, led at the time the race was abandoned. The second leg of rolling doubles still alive into the race were treated as bets on the entire field.
