Srumdiddlyumptious Wins Fort Monmouth Stakes

Srumdiddlyumptious proved to be more than a handful for the gate crew before the race, but dominated after the starting bell, going gate to wire in Sunday’s $60,000 Fort Monmouth Stakes at Monmouth Park.

“He’s not the best horse loading into the gate,” said trainer Kelly John Breen, “but when he comes out he moves fast. Some of the speed horses were out so we told Elvis (jockey Trujillo) to go to the front. That was it.”

Srumdiddlyumptious, who stepped the 5 ½ furlongs over a fast main trackin 1:02 3/5, paid $4.60, $3.40, and $2.60 after coasting to victory by 8 ¼ lengths. Spun Silky completed the $45.20 exacta and paid $12.20 and $5.00. It was another 2 ¼ lengths back to Queen Chatanika, who paid $3.20 to show.

“He’s never acted up that badly behind the gate,” said winning jockey Elvis Trujillo. “The hardest part today was getting him in. Once the gates opened I pointed him to the lead and let him carry me home.”

A 4-year-old filly by Roman Ruler from the Hennessy mare Livealifeoflove, Srumdiddlyumptious has won five of his 11 starts and earned $230,610 for owners George and Lori Hall.
