Lightning Tones, a 5-year-old gelding trained by Carlos Narvaez, got the highest speed figures among last week's stakes winners for his victory in the Sunshine Classic at Gulfstream Park.

With Jorge Ruiz riding, Lightning Tones hit the gate and was last of seven through the half-mile marker. But he came on late to win the 1 1/16-mile race for state-breds by 1 1/4 lengths. The win broke a nine-race losing streak dating back to late 2023.

He earned a 94 Brisnet Speed Rating and 91 Beyer Speed figure for his effort.

In the race that drew the most attention over the weekend, Naughty Rascal got a 89 Brisnet and 85 Beyer for his win by disqualification in the Pasco at Tampa Bay Downs. Owen Almighty crossed the line first, earning an 87 Beyer in the process, but was taken down to fifth for bumping another runner coming out of the backside.
