Speed figures: Barnes leads week’s fastest stakes winners
The step up to a seven-furlong distance brought out the best in Barnes, who earned last week’s best stakes-winning Horse Racing Nation speed figure with a 131 in the Grade 3 Perryville at Keeneland.
Barnes, trained by Bob Baffert, was the second choice in the field of five. He battled on the pace early but rolled clear in the lane to win by 8 1/4 lengths over odds-on favorite Captain Cook. The performance also earned him a 101 Brisnet Speed Rating, the highest stakes-winning number of the week on that scale as well as a 96 Beyer Speed Figure.
