Sovereignty will train up to Breeders' Cup Classic
Sovereignty will remain at Saratoga and train up to the Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 1, trainer Bill Mott told the New York Racing Association media team Sunday.
“We’ll stay up here (to train),” Mott said after the Into Mischef colt won the Grade 1 Travers on Saturday. “I always think fresh horses run pretty good usually, and we’ll have to train him. If we run him, we’ve got to ship him somewhere, and he runs good enough fresh, so I’m not that worried.”
Sovereignty has won his last four starts, a streak that started with wins in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes and continued with the Jim Dandy (G2) ahead of his Travers victory.
The Travers came four weeks after the Jim Dandy, and Sovereignty had a seven-week break between the Belmont and the Jim Dandy. He also skipped the Preakness, giving him five weeks between the Derby and Belmont.
Sovereignty was the first Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes winner to score in the Travers since Thunder Gulch in 1995.
