Sovereignty maintained a big lead not only in winning the Grade 1 Travers Stakes on Saturday but also in the latest ranking of the top horses in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association poll.

The Godolphin homebred 3-year-old colt by Into Mischief received 24 first-place votes of a possible 30. Trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Júnior Alvarado, Sovereignty solidified his hold on the top spot with his 10-length runaway Saturday at Saratoga. His record also has been fueled by his wins in the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.

Sovereignty surges down stretch to win Travers.

Mindframe, who has back-to-back Grade 1 wins in the Churchill Downs and Stephen Foster stakes, remained a distant second in the poll posted Tuesday.

The one change in the top 10 was at nos. 6 and 7, where Book’em Danno leapfrogged Nysos thanks to his victory Saturday in the Forego (G1) at Saratoga.

The week 31 poll covered racing performances through Sunday. Voting was conducted among national media as well as some track publicists.

The poll covers Thoroughbreds competing for horse of the year. The final weekly survey will be posted Nov. 4, three days after the Breeders’ Cup.

Rankings in the poll are on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-1 basis with first-place votes in parentheses, total points, racing divisions, 2025 records and rankings from last week.
