Sorcerer's Silver, pulled up on Ky. Derby undercard, is recovering
Sorcerer's Silver, who was vanned off after being injured during an allowance on the Kentucky Derby undercard on May 3 at Churchill Downs, is recovering from surgery for a sesamoid fracture.
In a Monday Facebook post by Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, where a three-hour joint fusion surgery was performed by orthopedic surgeon Larry Bramlage, his prognosis was described as "encouraging". The surgery was previously reported by Lexington, Ky. NBC affiliate Lex 18.
Sorcerer's Silver is a 3-year-old son of Good Magic out of the stakes-winning J Be K mare Money Or Love. Trained by Dale Romans for West Point Thoroughbreds and Domeyko Taylor, he broke his maiden by 8 1/4 lengths on debut in a dirt sprint at Gulfstream on Feb. 1. He followed that up with a seven-length score in an allowance sprint for Florida-breds at Gulfstream on March 27.
In the race May 3, Sorcerer's Silver broke from the outside in a field of ten. He disputed the early lead but was pulled up abruptly by jockey Irad Ortiz around the first turn. The race was eventually won by favorite Goal Oriented, who is expected to contest the Preakness for trainer Bob Baffert.
