John Menary and Gail Cox's Something Extra had plenty of speed to wire the field in the Grade 2, $200,000 Highlander at Woodbine, only 2/5 of a second short of the course record.

Giving jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva his second stakes victory - and third overall win - on the day's card, Something Extra broke sharply and took a natural hold on the lead out of the gate. Sparrowhawk made an early challenge at the pace, getting a half-length in front in the backstretch. Stormy Rush and Bear No Joke held stalking positions, while Phil's Dream, Mr. Online and Occasional View followed from off the pace. Awesome Eclipse and Lockout were the early trailers.

Under early fractions of :21.86, :43.92 and :55.50, Something Extra regained control entering the turn and kept to task in the stretch to win by a length. Sparrowhawk failed to bid and faded quickly. Phil's Dream gave chase and got the edge for second. Lockout came with a late charge, missing second-place by a nose, while Awesome Eclipse was fourth.

Something Extra finished the six furlong turf sprint in 1:07.98, about 2/5 of a second short of the course record of 1:07.39.

Trained by co-owner Gail Cox, Something Extra boasts a lifetime record of 25-8-7-5 and earnings of nearly $750,000. Bred in Kentucky by Gulf Coast Farms, LLC, the winner is a 6-year-old gelding is a son of Indian Charlie out of Our Mariah, by Mt. Livermore.
