So, what's next for Triple Crown winner Justify?

As the dust settles from Justify's emphatic win in Saturday's 2018 Belmont Stakes, the question will be asked: What's next?

The colt's immediate future, we know. What's farther down the road remains to be seen, but there's always the blueprint to consult from American Pharoah's 2015 campaign, one that Justify has mirrored since winning the Kentucky Derby.

Darren Rogers, spokesman for Churchill Downs, tweeted after the Belmont that Justify would return there on Monday afternoon. Justify, as with American Pharoah, stabled in Louisville between legs of the Triple Crown and followed a similar training schedule as his predeccesor.

A week after his Belmont, American Pharoah paraded during Churchill's "Downs After Dark" race card headlined by the Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap. So...

And it was after showing himself off to the public that American Pharoah returned to the West Coast, remained in light training and eventually targeted a race, the Grade 1 Haskell. Trainer Bob Baffert has now won Monmouth Park's meet feature a record eight times.

"We're going to enjoy today and not really think about it, but he's done a lot in a short period of time, so it's going to be up to Bob what happens now," said WinStar Farm's Elliott Walden, who manages Justify's schedule. "But looking forward to -- can't wait to get him back out there. But we're going to do right by him, and I'm sure Bob knows how to get him ready, and we'll wait on that."

Of course, the Haskell was also close to home for Zayat Stables, which campaigned Pharoah, and Baffert has mentioned the race already as a target for his other top 3-year-old, McKinzie. The combination of WinStar Farm, China Horse Club and other partners may have different ideas for Justify's return race, assuming there is one.

Also hanging over the Triple Crown winner's future is that reported deal with Coolmore. Both ESPN and the New York Times indicated there is an agreement to send Justify there upon retirement for a sum in the neighborhood of $60 million. It may increase now that the colt has won the Triple Crown and solidified himself as the top son of late Coolmore stallion Scat Daddy. Walden declined further comment on the matter Saturday.

Other top 3-year-old races on the calendar include the Jim Dandy (G2) on July 28 at Saratoga, the Travers (G1) on Aug. 25 in New York, and the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) on Sept. 22 at Parx Racing. Those tests all culminate to the chance for a sophomore to go out of his age group and contend for the Nov. 3 Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.
