Steve Hartman’s Snakebite Kit broke on top, made the pace most of the way in Fair Grounds $44,500 featured race at about one mile over the Stall-Wilson turf course and withstood Red Oak Stable’s Kissimmee Kyle in the late stages to be best by a length at the wire.

The winner, conditioned by Eddie Johnston and ridden by John Jacinto – Fair Grounds’ red-hot trainer-jockey duo – returned mutuels of $4.20, $2.80 and $2.60, toured the distance in 1:39.39 after early fractions of 24.98 and 49.20 and increased his career earnings to $79,500 with his third win in as many starts.

Kissimmee Kyle, who paid $5.60 and $4, was allowed to settle early, rallied to be easily second best but could not catch the winner.

Trace Masters Racing Stable’s Twilight Ross made a mild bid to gain the third spot while three lengths behind Kissimmee Kyle. He paid $3 in the show position.

Racing resumes Monday at Fair Grounds with a 10-race program beginning at 1:10 p.m.
