Jobe Racing, Inc.’s Smoke the Devil pushed past Who’s the Cowboy in the shadow of the wire to capture the $52,500 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Friday.

Trained by Jose Samaniego and ridden by Elvis Trujillo, Smoke the Devil covered the mile and 70 yards over a fast main track in 1:42 1/5 and returned $8, $4.60 and $3.20.  It was a neck back to 9-year-old Who’s the Cowboy, who completed the $41.60 exacta and paid $5.20 and $3.80.  It was another 2 ¼ lengths back to Pasta Lover, who returned $6.40 to show.

Friday’s win was the third in 11 starts for Smoke the Devil, a 4-year-old gelding by Devil His Due from the Smoke Glacken mare Smoke Glack Attack.
