Smart Transition Still Under Consideration for Travers

Smart Transition, who earned his first stakes victory for owner Arnold Zechter and trainer John Shirreffs in the Curlin Stakes on July 31, is still under consideration for the Travers. According to Shirreffs, a final decision on if the colt would enter the race will be made after his next scheduled breeze at the Spa.
With two wins from six starts, both coming at two turns, the son of Smart Strike began his career in California, finishing second in his debut at 6 ½ furlongs. He has shown an affinity for stretching out in distance, breaking his maiden at 1 1/16 miles on April 30 at Santa Anita Park by 2 ¼ lengths and most recently winning the 1 1/8-mile Curlin by 4 ¾ lengths.
"He's doing very well," said Shirreffs. "He's going to work in a couple of days. We're still thinking about [the Travers], but it's an opportunity for a 3-year-old and we like the way he's run at two turns. It looks like that was the ticket. We'll decide if he'll enter the race following his next workout."
