Liam's Map, the 2015 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner, has established himself as a successful stallion with multiple Grade 1 winners, including Colonel Liam, Deterministic and Burnham Square, winner of the Blue Grass on his way to the Kentucky Derby. Standing at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky, his stud fee was $40,000 for the 2025 breeding season.

Burnham Square tried turf for the first time in the Nashville Derby (G3) at Kentucky Downs, where he missed the win by a head to the Euro shipper Wimbledon Hawkeye. This performance so impressed his trainer Ian Wilkes that he told Blood-Horse the 3-year-old colt is taking the rest of the year off and will return as a turf horse next year. And that tracks for Liam's Map as a sire, as his top earners show how versatile this son of Unbridled's Song really is.

During his racing career, Liam's Map compiled an impressive record with victories in the Woodward Stakes (G1) and Harlan's Holiday before his career-defining triumph in the 2015 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. As of Sept. 2, his progeny had accumulated over $44 million in earnings from 5,113 starts, with 859 wins and 28 graded-stakes victories.

Surface analysis: Strong across all surfaces

Liam's Map's offspring have shown consistent performance across dirt, turf and synthetic surfaces, with dirt producing the highest win percentage and synthetic showing the best strike rate.

Surface Sts W W% Avg
HRN
$/start
Dirt 3,384 587 17.4% 87 $8,176
Synthetic 461 88 19.1% 88 $6,900
Turf 1,268 184 14.5% 87 $10,385
Overall 5,113 859 16.8% 87 $8,609

While synthetic surfaces show the highest win percentage at 19.1%, dirt produces the most graded stakes winners with 13 compared to 14 on turf and one on synthetic. The Horse Racing Nation speed figures remain remarkably consistent across all three surfaces.

Distance preferences: Similar performance in sprints and routes

Liam's Map's progeny demonstrate versatility across distance categories, with nearly identical win percentages between sprints and routes.

Distance Sts W W% Avg
HRN
$/start
Sprint 2,852 479 16.8% 86 $6,832
Route 2,261 380 16.8% 89 $10,851

The statistics reveal equal win rates at both sprint and route distances. However, route runners produce higher HRN speed figures (89 vs. 86) and significantly higher earnings per start ($10,851 vs. $6,832), with 23 graded stakes wins compared to five in sprints.

Surface and distance combinations

Analyzing performance by both surface and distance reveals specific strengths in Liam's Map's offspring.

Surface/
Distance
Sts W W% Avg
HRN
$/start
Dirt sprint 2,211 376 17.0% 87 $6,596
Dirt route 1,173 211 18.0% 88 $11,156
Synth sprint 239 45 18.8% 90 $7,059
Synth route 222 43 19.4% 87 $6,729
Turf sprint 402 58 14.4% 78 $7,994
Turf route 866 126 14.6% 91 $11,495

Synthetic routes produce the highest win percentage at 19.4%, followed closely by synthetic sprints at 18.8%. Dirt routes win at 18.0% with strong earnings per start at $11,156, while turf runners show the lowest win percentages but produce solid speed figures, particularly in route races with an average of 91.

Detailed distance analysis: Consistency across ranges

Examining specific distance ranges shows Liam's Map's offspring maintain solid performance across various trips.

Distance range Sts W W% Avg
HRN
$/start
Less than 6F 860 151 17.6% 78 $5,715
6F to 6.5F 1,569 260 16.6% 89 $6,987
6.51F to 8F 1,583 264 16.7% 88 $8,003
8.01F to 9F 1,033 173 16.8% 90 $12,606
Greater than 9F 68 11 16.2% 99 $36,034

Win percentages remain remarkably consistent across all distance ranges, hovering between 16.2% and 17.6%. Speed figures increase with distance, reaching an impressive 99 for races beyond nine furlongs, while earnings per start also rise significantly at longer distances.

Gender differences: Performance patterns

Liam's Map shows balanced ability to sire quality runners of both genders, with males showing slight advantages in speed figures and earnings.

Gender Sts W W% Avg
HRN
$/start
Male 2,614 440 16.8% 91 $9,365
Female 2,499 419 16.8% 83 $7,819

The win percentages are identical between males and females at 16.8%. Males produce higher HRN speed figures (91 vs. 83) and generate higher earnings per start ($9,365 vs. $7,819), with 16 graded stakes wins compared to 12 for females.

Wet track performance: Enhanced performance in conditions

Liam's Map's offspring show improved performance on wet surfaces compared to dry conditions across both dirt sprints and routes.

Surface/
Condition
Sts W W% Avg
HRN
$/start
Dirt sprint wet 361 70 19.4% 89 $8,351
Dirt route wet 227 53 23.3% 90 $12,837
Turf sprint wet 52 8 15.4% 82 $11,615
Turf route wet 134 12 9.0% 88 $11,828

The most notable improvement appears in dirt route wet conditions, where the win percentage jumps to 23.3% compared to 18.0% on dry dirt routes. Dirt sprint wet conditions also show improvement at 19.4% versus 17.0% on dry surfaces.

Development pattern: Progressive improvement

Liam's Map's offspring display the typical pattern of improvement with racing experience, showing substantial gains by their third start.

Experience Sts W W% Avg
HRN
$/start
First start 466 51 10.9% 74 $6,421
Second start 427 63 14.8% 81 $9,183
Third start 390 71 18.2% 82 $9,506

The progression is clear with win percentage rising from 10.9% on debut to 18.2% by the third start. Speed figures also improve consistently from 74 to 82, while earnings per start increase substantially with experience.

Age comparison: Peak performance at 4

Liam's Map's progeny show steady development through their racing careers, with 4-year-olds producing the best overall statistics.

Age Sts W W% Avg
HRN
$/start
2YO 711 93 13.1% 75 $9,821
3YO 1,881 324 17.2% 86 $9,212
4YO 1,401 250 17.8% 90 $8,356
5YO+ 1,120 192 17.1% 94 $7,144

The 4-year-old group produces the highest win percentage at 17.8%, while older horses achieve the best speed figures at 94. The progression from 2-year-old to 3-year-old performance shows the most dramatic improvement in win rate.

Graded-stakes success: Elite performers across surfaces

Among Liam's Map's notable graded-stakes winners, Deterministic stands out with multiple Grade 1 victories, including the Fourstardave Stakes and Manhattan Stakes in 2025. Burnham Square captured the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) in 2025, and Colonel Liam won the Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational (G1) in both 2021 and 2022.

Other notable performers include Crazy Beautiful, who won the Delaware Oaks (G3) and Summertime Oaks (G2), and Roses for Debra, winner of the Presque Isle Downs Masters (G2). The diversity of these winners across different surfaces and distances demonstrates Liam's Map's versatility as a sire.
