Singanothersong, Weekend Hideaway Work for Mr. Prospector
South Florida stakes winners Singanothersong and Weekend Hideaway each put in half-mile breezes Sunday morning in preparation for an expected start in the $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3) Dec. 19 at Gulfstream Park.
Herman Van Den Broeck’s Singanothersong was timed in 47.60 seconds at Gulfstream Park West, the fastest of 19 horses. The 5-year-old son of Songandaprayer was eighth last year in defense of his 2013 Mr. Prospector victory.
“I thought it was a good move for him,” trainer Ron Pellegrini said. “We’ll see how he cools out and how he’s acting the next day or two, but everything looks to be on schedule.”
Red and Black Stable’s Weekend Hideaway went four furlongs in 49.47 seconds over Gulfstream’s main track. He won a five-furlong allowance Nov. 16 at Gulfstream Park West, his first victory since the Sunshine Millions Sprint Jan. 17 at Gulfstream.
“He went very easily,” trainer Phil Serpe said. “He’s a good work horse. We’re going to look the race over and kind of see who might be going in there, but it’s definitely a target for us.”
Prado Taken to Hospital Following Seventh Race Spill
Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital complaining of chest soreness after being unseated from his mount, Legs Like Betty, at the start of Sunday’s seventh race.
Breaking from outside post 16 in the 7 ½-furlong maiden turf sprint, Legs Like Betty bolted to the outside fence and dumped the 48-year-old Prado before jumping the temporary outer rail onto the main track. After getting up, the 2-year-old filly ran to the top of the stretch before being caught by outriders.
Prado had no major injuries, but was very sore.
Gulfstream’s Mongolian Saturday, Rosario in Hong Kong Sunday
Gulfstream Park-based Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) winner Mongolian Saturday finished fifth behind local long shot Peniaphobia in Sunday’s Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin Race Course. Trained by Enebish Ganbat, Mongolian Saturday was the top international finisher in the 1,200-meter event.
Green Mask, the other American-based entrant in the race coming off a third-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, finished eighth. Green Mask was ridden by Joel Rosario for trainer Wesley Ward, both based at Gulfstream for the Championship Meet.
Who’s Hot: Twelve-time defending Championship Meet leading trainer Todd Pletcher added a pair of victories to close the first full week of racing, with Resilient One ($13.60) in the fourth race and Castor ($11) in the seventh, both 2-year-olds. Pletcher is off to a 10-for-22 start at the meet with four seconds and three thirds, eight of his wins coming with juveniles.
Rainbow 6 Carryover: $40,117.35.
