Herman Van Den Broeck's graded-stakes winner Singanothersong showed his back class in a 1 3/4-length victory in Wednesday's featured eighth race, a $43,000 optional claiming allowance contested at five furlongs over the Gulfstream Park turf course.
The Ron Pellegrini-trained 6-year-old notched only his second victory, as well as his first first-place finish, since capturing the Mr. Prospector Stakes (G3) in December 2013. The gray son of Songandaprayer was awarded the victory in the Bonita Stakes, a five-furlong turf race, via the disqualification of the winner at Gulfstream Park last August.
Singanothersong ran the five-furlong distance in 55.61 seconds at 17-1 odds Wednesday. Following the longshot victory, there were no live tickets in either the Late Pick 5 or the Rainbow 6, generating carryovers for Thursday's nine-race card. The Late Pick 5, which produced a $518.40 payoff for 4 out of 5 winners, will start off with a carryover pool of $20,218.02. The Rainbow 6, which paid $955.52 for 5 out 6 winners, will offer a $40,060.99 carryover. The Late Pick 5 sequence will span Races 5-9, while the Rainbow 6 will cover Races 4-9.
Thursday's program will offer the first race for 2-year-olds this year. Eight juveniles will debut in Race 4, including trainer Wesley Ward's homebred Animal Quiet and the Dane Kobiskie-trained duo of Da Meister and I Shod the Sherriff.
First race post time is set for 12:55 p.m.
