Silver Medallion Faces Five in Lexington

El Camino Real Derby (G3) hero Silver Medallion, most recently 4th in the Santa Anita Derby (G1), headlines a field of six in Saturday's Grade 3 Coolmore Lexington Stakes at Keeneland.

Silver Medallion won his Saratoga debut on the grass last summer under the care of Chad Brown and finished up the track in the With Approval (G3) and Breeders' Futurity (G1). A runner-up effort in a Churchill Downs entry level grass route in November followed and he was transferred to the Steve Asmussen barn after that. 

He ended 2010 with a win in the Eddie Logan Stakes at Santa Anita before capturing the El Camino Real Derby over Golden Gate's Tapeta footing in February. He stalked and weakened in the Santa Anita Derby off a layoff and looms large in his return to synthetic ground.

Prime Cut exits a strong Fair Grounds optional claiming route win over highly regarded colt Bind and the distant show finisher returned to score. The Neil Howard trainee owns fine early-pressing versatility and figures in the thick of things throughout if he handles Keeneland's Polytrack surface.

One horse who won't have any problems with the footing is Casper's Touch. Ken McPeek's charge smartly nabbed a local extended sprint on April 8 and has the high percentage Alan Garcia and Ken McPeek team in his corner.

Turfway Park invader Taptowne hit the board in a pair of minor stakes races this winter and was last seen finishing 5th in the Spiral Stakes (G3). He is not without a look in here under Corey Lanerie.

Derby Kitten goes turf to synthetic for Mike Maker and will try to get involved late.

Hurricane Lake rounds out the field for Jeff Bonde. The Northern California shipper exits back-to-bacvk synthetic route wins but is a cut below on numbers.      

Jaycito, originally slated to run in the Lexington, is still pointing to the Kentucky Derby but was not ready to compete at Keeneland on Saturday, according to trainer Bob Baffert.
