Silver Lode Could Make Next Start on Dirt

TNT Thoroughbreds’ Silver Lode has continued to impress thus far in her career for trainer Doug Matthews. The daughter of Cashel Castle broke her maiden on debut going five furlongs at Arlington International Racecourse on July 19 – defying a speed-friendly surface to close from nearly 10 lengths astern to win by 2¾ lengths. Next out, the stone gray Illinois-bred filly closed resolutely in the Listed $75,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie from ninth of 10 to finish second behind Marquee Miss.

“She’s doing really well,” Matthews said. “She came out of the Lassie as well as she went in. I’ve trained a lot of her family and what surprises me is that she’s doing well now (in her career). Her family usually is better going longer distances and on the dirt.”

Silver Lode could make her next start on dirt after having her first two on Arlington’s Polytrack, according to Matthews. A Prairie State-bred, she is eligible for the restricted juvenile stakes at Hawthorne Race Course – including the $50,000-added Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante on Dec. 5.

“I think she’ll be better on the dirt and going two turns,” Matthews said. “I worked her with (School Board Prez), who has won a couple stakes for me in Ohio and she runs right with her.

“Right now we’re not looking at anything, but the stakes at Hawthorne are what she’ll likely run in,” Matthews concluded.

GROUND TRANSPORT TOPS WORK TAB

Multiple stakes winner Ground Transport was impressive on Sunday morning, working a bullet five furlongs in :59.40 for trainer Mike Stidham. The 5-year-old dark bay was last seen finishing off the board in stakes company at Indiana Grand and is expected to race again soon for owners West Point Thoroughbreds, St. Elias Stable and Get Grounded Stable.

Four-time stakes winner Recount worked toward a possible start in the Grade III $300,000 Gallant Bob at Parx later this month, working five furlongs in 1:01.60 for trainer Jimmy DiVito and owner Doubledown Stables.

Darrell and Sadie Brommer’s Prado’s Sweet Ride and Team Block’s Giant Deduction worked in tandem over the Arlington turf, going five furlongs in 1:06.80 for trainer Chris Block. Both charges exit the Grade III $100,000 Pucker Up Stakes on Arlington Million Day, with the former finishing third and the latter eighth.

Lothenbach Stables’ graded stakes-placed No Fault of Mine worked six furlongs in 1:14 flat for trainer Chris Block. The homebred is expected to make her first start since November this fall.

Bradlee Rainwater’s Mongol Bull worked a half-mile in :47.80 for his owner-trainer. The diminutive son of Hard Spun exits a third in a salty allowance turf sprint on Aug. 20 behind Mongolian Saturday and Hogy.

Multiple graded stakes winner General Election worked a half-mile in :50.40 for trainer Mike Stidham and owner Richard L. Duchossois.

Savoy Stable’s stakes-level sophomore Distorted Type, who exits a workmanlike allowance victory against older turf fillies and mares last out, worked a half-mile in :48.40 for trainer Dale Bennett.

Team Block and Moabo Stables’ 4-year-old allowance gelding Bold Rally worked a half-mile in a sharp :48 flat for trainer Chris Block. Last out, the son of Fort Prado added blinkers and improved sharply to easily win a turf allowance over useful allowance foesSpark Kit and Five Green Stars.
