Sikum, a 7-year-old mare, was euthanized after being injured in the second race at Fair Grounds on Saturday. The race was a conditioned $15,000 claiming turf sprint for older fillies and mares.

In upper stretch, Sikum was racing toward the inside under jockey Jaime Torres. Past the three-sixteenths mark, she pitched forward after appearing to injure a leg and unseated Torres. According to the race chart on Equibase, Sikum was euthanized after the injury.

Sikum was a daughter of Bayern out of the stakes-winning Scat Daddy mare Kiss the Daddy. She had a record of 25: 4-3-4, with earnings of $182,134. Her last win came Oct. 8 in a New York-bred allowance at Belmont.

Torres's next named mount was Just Might in the fourth race, an allowance-level turf sprint eventually won by Mister Mmmmm. Just Might, a millionaire trained by Michelle Lovell, flipped in the gate before the race and was ordered scratched. After that incident Torres was declared off his mounts for the rest of the day.
