Sibelius, Missed the Cut lead weekend's fastest runners
The highest speed figures for last weekend's stakes winners went to 6-year-old Sibelius and 5-year-old Missed the Cut.
Sibelius started his 2024 campaign Saturday with a victory in the Pelican at Tampa Bay Downs for his second straight stakes win and a 97 Brisnet Speed Rating, the highest of the weekend.
With Junior Alvarado riding, he dueled to the wire of the six-furlong sprint to win by a neck in 1:08.90 for trainer Jeremiah O'Dwyer. Sibelius also earned a 91 Beyer Speed Figure from Daily Racing Form for the effort.
The highest Beyer of the weekend went to Missed the Cut for his win in the Grade 3 San Marcos.
At Santa Anita, Joel Rosario and Missed the Cut took over in the stretch and won Grade 3 San Marcos by 1 1/4 lengths, earnings a 100 Beyer from Daily Racing Form. The time for the 1 1/4-mile race on the downhill turf was 2:01.14.
Missed the Cut, trained by John Sadler, got a 94 Brisnet Speed Rating.
