Sea Gull Associates’ Shock Leader closed with a furious rally down the center of the stretch to post a nose victory over Lead Singer in the $30,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at the Meadowlands on Saturday afternoon.

Trained by Tim Hills and ridden by Victor Santiago, Shock Leader stopped the timer in 1:41 3/5 for a mile and 70 yards over firm turf.  The winner paid $27.40, $12.40 and $7.40 and topped the $237.60 exacta.  Lead Singer returned $6.80 and $5.  It was another ¾ of a length back to post-time favorite Native Wave, who paid $4.60 to show in the field of 11.

A 3-year-old gelding by Bernstein from the Dehere mare Got a Glow, Shock Leader has won his last two and sports a record of 2-1-0 from six career outings.

Live racing continues on Friday, Oct. 25 – gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 2:15 p.m.  The all-turf Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet runs through Nov. 2.
