She's Incredible breaks maiden in FSS Meadow Star
It was a day of firsts in the $150,000 Florida Sire Meadow Star Stakes as She’s Incredible ($14.40) broke her maiden on a big stage to give young trainer Fernando Abreu his initial stakes success.
The 3-year-old filly rated under jockey Jesus Rios at the back of the five-horse field as second-choice Ballet Diva sparred with R Quick Temper. Favored R Kinsley Doll loomed large turning for home, but She’s Incredible surged past her in the stretch and strode home a 4 1/2-length winner. The final time for the one-mile test was 1:37.77. Silent Prayer rallied to edge R Kinsley Doll for second.
“It’s my biggest win so far and I hope there’s many more to come,” said Abreu, who previously worked as an assistant to venerable trainer Allen Jerkens. “The kid rode her good, didn’t get too much dirt in her face even though she was a little bit wide. She finished real good today.”
Owned by Our Sugar Bear Stable, She’s Incredible hit the board in three straight maiden races in June and July before tackling the $150,000 Florida Sire Three Ring Stakes on August 6. She finished fifth that afternoon, beaten just three lengths by winner R Kinsley Doll, and followed that with a closer third to the same filly in the $150,000 Florida Sire Jewel Princess Stakes. Today’s additional furlong made the difference, according to Abreu.
“I did have confidence in her because she was closing last time going seven-eighths,” he said. “It looked like the two favorites maybe didn’t want to go as far. I was pretty confident at the quarter pole. As soon as she switches to her right lead she goes on about her business.”
She’s Incredible, a $20,000 juvenile purchase in Ocala, may have earned herself a vacation with her Meadow Star maiden score.
“We’ll probably give her a little break now because she’s been running a lot, ran those three races back to back,” Abreu added. “She was a maiden and we were taking a shot, but there weren’t that many horses in all of those races and she does want to go longer. But I’ll talk it over with Our Sugar Bear Stable and see where they want to go from here.”
She’s Incredible has now earned $149,590 for Our Sugar Bear Stable. Her victory secured Saturday’s early double ($71.80) for Abreu, who also saddled Absolute Pinnacle to win the first race.
“It was a nice way to start the day,” Abreu said.
