Shedaresthedevil, Eclair share top billing in Santa Anita's Anoakia
Trainer Simon Callaghan’s Shedaresthedevil and Bob Baffert’s Éclair rate big chances in a wide-open cast of six juvenile fillies going six furlongs in Sunday’s $75,000 Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita.
Shipped west to Callaghan following an impressive first-out maiden win at Churchill Downs on June 13, Shedaresthedevil cuts back in distance from a one mile turf stakes try at Del Mar on Sept. 2, while Éclair exits a facile three length maiden win going 5 ½ furlongs as the 1-2 favorite at Los Alamitos on Sept. 13.
Glencrest Farm LLC and Qatar Racing Shedareshedevil was sent off as the 6-5 favorite in the one mile Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar Sept. 2. The Kentucky-bred daughter of Daredevil showed the way early in a field of 11, but tired to finish fourth, beaten 5 ¾ lengths. Third, beaten six lengths two starts back in the Grade 2, six furlong Sorrento Stakes, Shedaresthedevil rates top billing in what will be her third start for Callaghan.
Sarah Kelly and Jane Wiltz Eclair was a $420,000 Fasig Tipton Santa Anita 2-year-old in training sale purchase this past June. The Kentucky-bred filly by Bernardini was an impressive maiden winner at Los Alamitos in what was her third start. With a solid five-eighths mile work of 1:00.40 (2/37) to her credit here on Monday, Éclair should be very tough as she faces winners for the first time.
