She Be Wild Injured

Daily Racing Form reports that last year's champion juvenile filly SHE BE WILD (Offlee Wild) fractured her left front pastern Sunday, sidelining her for an undetermined period and ending her bid for the April 30 Kentucky Oaks (G1).

Trainer Wayne Catalano said that the injury occurred when She Be Wild was taking her usual gallop at Keeneland Sunday morning. Once the fracture was diagnosed, surgery was performed to insert a screw into the injured area.

"The filly's fine now, and that's the main thing," Catalano told the DRF. "Obviously we're very sad about it, but it's part of the game."

A homebred campaigned by Nancy Mazzoni, She Be Wild won her Eclipse Award after scoring victories in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), Arlington-Washington Lassie S. (G3) and Top Flight S. The dark bay also finished a close second in the Alcibiades S. (G1) in her only loss from five starts at two.

She Be Wild was upset in her sophomore, and dirt, debut in the January 31 Forward Gal S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park, where she wound up fifth behind Bickersons (Silver Deputy). She was scratched from the March 13 Florida Oaks (G3), with Catalano being concerned about the potential for an off track at Tampa Bay Downs. She Be Wild then reverted to a synthetic surface in the April 3 Ashland S. (G1) at Keeneland and reported home third, beaten just one length by Evening Jewel (Northern Afleet).

She Be Wild was ranked at the top of the graded earnings list for the Kentucky Oaks with $1,312,100 in graded earnings.
