Shared Legacy, full brother to champion Shared Belief, is a maiden no more.

The 4-year-old Candy Ride colt scored his first career win Friday in a maiden special weight event sprinting on the Gulfstream Park turf. Paco Lopez had the mount on the Murat Sancal trainee, who returned $21.40 at 9-1 odds.

Lopez rated Shared Legacy through the turn of the five-furlong affair as Allegedly Perfect and R Man Joe dueled up front. Shared Legacy geared up to the outside of those two and scored by a length.

R Man Joe, the 3-5 favorite from the Georgina Baxter, stayed up for second ahead of Caribbean Gold in third.

Shared Legacy debuted last April at Keeneland as a 3-year-old with a 12th-place run. Since then, he DNF’d at Churchill Downs, ran fourth at Ellis Park, sixth back at Keeneland, fourth at Churchill, sixth at Gulfstream and second at Gulfstream before finally finding the winner’s circle Friday in his eighth race.

Nimet Arif Kurtel campaigns Shared Legacy, who’s out of the Storm Cat mare Common Hope. His reserve wasn't met at auction in September 2017, when he commanded $1.9 million, as Kurtel looks to build on the family's legacy.

Shared Legacy’s brother, Shared Belief, was the Eclipse Award Champion 2-Year-Old Colt of 2013. He won 10 of 12 starts, including five in Grade 1 races, before his death as a 4-year-old December 2015 due to colic.
