Kentucky Derby 4th place finisher Shackleford turned the tables on Animal Kingdom in the 136th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday.

Flashpoint went straight to the front with Shackleford pressing through solid fractions of :22.69, :46.87, and 1:12.01. Astrology, Midnight Interlude, and Dance City were in the early mix as well.

Shackleford took over the running after Flashpoint threw in the towel and opened up a length advantage in the lane.

Astrology tried to make a race of it from the rail and Animal Kingdom was rallying down the middle of the stretch.

In the end Shackleford had enough left to hold off Animal Kingdom by a 1/2 length with Astrology another length and a quarter back in 3rd.

Dialed In rallied to complete the superfecta and Dance City ran 5th all the way around the track. A wide Mucho Macho Man was next followed by King Congie, Mr. Commons, Isn't He Perfect, Concealed Identity, Norman Asbjornson, Sway Away, Midnight Interlude, and Flashpoint.

Shackleford, a 3-year-old son of Foresty, was ridden to victory by Jesus Castanon. The Dale Romans trainee paid $27.20 and completed his mile and three sixteenths journey in 1:56.47.
