Ok we all know the race hasn't even been run yet but like my mother always said, "Luck doesn't just happen. It often takes preparation and good timing." Well with that thought in mind, I am going to give you a few reasons why Brody's Cause is going to win the 2016 Kentucky Derby. If mom is right, all it takes is some quality preparation and perfect timing.
Reason #1 "The Trainer" Dale Romans has had a lot of success at Churchill. To say he grew up on the track would not be hyperbole, it would be the truth. Romans is best known for his very fast Preakness winner Shackleford. Most of his other major success has come on the turf but you can't blame him for being excited about his 2 time Grade 1 winner Brody's Cause. Having a trainer that knows the track so well can only help his improving young horse.
Reason #2 "The Jockey" It is not written in stone that Luis Saez will ride Brody's Cause but after his brilliant ride in the Blue Grass it is hard to imagine a change and the horses style fits Saez perfectly.
Reson #3 "Maiden Win" His Maiden win at Churchill Downs, swinging 8 wide tells you he has done it before and he has done it before at the track that matters. Many horses will be in the Derby having never raced at Churchill. You have the benefit of being able to go to Youtube and watch his race and watch him win on the track.
Reason #4 "3rd off a layoff" Often times it seems many young horses perform best after having a couple of races in them. You need to remember you don't want these horses peaking too early you want their best on the first Saturday in May. After the long layoff Brody's Cause need a race and racing on the track at Tampa can get your horse fit in a hurry and it did. After his casual race in the Tampa Derby Brody's Cause looked like himself in the Bluegrass easily running down everything in his path to an easy victory. His next race ? Look for him to improve again.
Reason #5 "Breeding" Brody's Cause is by Giant's Causeway and who will forget Tiznow and Giant's Causeway's stretch run in the Breeders Cup? One of the best ever and there should be no doubt that the son of Giant's Causeway will get the 1 1/4 mile distance.
Reason #6 "Size of Field" The Kentucky Derby will have 20 horses in the field and for many this will be the first time they see more than 10 in a race. Not so for Brody's Cause he has seen large fields and done very well 3 times. Not many horses coming into the Derby have seen fields of 11, 14 and 14 and won 2 out of three of them and all G1 races. This matters more than many believe and can be the difference between you favorite horse running or not running.
Reason #7 "Top Talent" Facing top talent matters and Brody's Cause has faced some of the very best and has won. We sometimes look at horses and think they are better than they really are aka (Mohaymen). Facing tough G1 large fields has given Brody's Cause the necessary foundation to fear him for the win in the year's Kentucky Derby. Good luck.
