Sequel Stallions loses three broodmares, foals in van fire
Sequel New York, which stands stallions such as Alpha and Freud, on Tuesday announced that three mares and three foals died in a van fire on a trip from Kentucky to New York.
“These were not just any mares, as they were foremost in our hearts,” a statement on the farm's website reads. “We send our condolences to all the connections that are sharing in this loss and hope to provide some comfort to them by memorializing these beautiful animals here for us to remember.”
La Java was traveling with her Constitution colt owned by Red Diamond Stables. The Medaglia d’Oro mare was back in foal to Orb and is succeeded by Gio d’Oro, a stakes-placed 3-year-old who hasn’t missed the board in three starts.
Starship Voodoo was accompanied by a Macho Uno colt owned by Starship Stables. She was in foal to Macho Uno again. Starship Voodoo, according to Sequel New York, has produced four winners of five foals to race.
Southern Sunshine recently had an Orb filly owned by Sequel. Just 7 years old and on the racetrack as recently as 2016, she was back in foal to Unified.
