Sepoy narrowly wins the Coolmore Stud Stakes

DARLEY supremo Peter Snowden had nothing but praise for super colt Sepoy despite his narrow win in the Group 1 $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington yesterday.

"The margin was small, the effort was huge," he said.

When asked to explain what he meant, Snowden said Sepoy's long spring campaign was taking its toll but the champion colt continues to do what he does best - win.

"Sepoy has had to be up for three grand finals in one preparation," Snowden said.

"We had to get him up for the Danehill Stakes first up, then we had to get him right for the Manikato Stakes and keep him there for this race.

"It takes a champion horse to do what he has done."

Snowden said Sepoy showed telltale signs he was coming to the end of his preparation, confirming there was no chance he would line up against Black Caviar in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic at Flemington on Saturday.

"He was very courageous today but he showed to me that he is a little tired and looking for a break now," Snowden said. "After the Golden Slipper, he only had a short spell - and he has been in work for nearly six months.
