Separationofpowers led gate to wire Friday at Belmont Park, drawing clear to win the Grade 3, $250,000 Bed O’ Roses Invitational.

The 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly is daughter of Argentinian-bred Candy Ride. Jose Ortiz rode the Chad Brown trainee, who is owned by Klaravich Stables, Inc.

“She broke so sharp," Brown said of Separationofpowers, who paid $7.80 to win. "I was hoping she would. We said if she breaks cleanly and fast to go along with it and either go to the front or, at the very least, establish yourself prominent in second if someone’s really hell-bent on making the lead.

"Let’s see if she’s good enough and if she’s back to her form last year. It worked out fine.”

Separationofpowers covered fractions of :22.49, :45.04 and 1:08.62 on her way to a winning time of 1:21.46 for seven furlongs. It was 4 3/4 lengths back to second-place Chalon followed by Dawn the Destroyer and then Pacific Gale.

Separationofpowers now has four wins over nine career starts. She’s a three-time graded stakes winner, having also claimed the 2017 Frizette (G1) at Belmont and 2018 Test (G1) at Saratoga.

Last out, Separationofpowers ran third May 11 in Belmont’s Vagrancy Handicap (G3), her first start after an eight-month layoff for surgery to remove a chip in her ankle.
