The impressive son of Street Sense, Sense Of Occasion, flew home to take the G1 Doomben Cup over 2000m in thrilling style at Doomben on 20 May. This is the fourth Stakes victory and second in group company for the gelding, following his success in the G2 Villiers Stakes at Randwick earlier this season.
Jumping from an outside barrier, the six-year-old travelled comfortable toward the tail-end of the field under jockey Corey Brown before showing a superb turn of foot at the top of the straight. Weaving a passage to the outside of the course, the Kris Lees-trained gelding charged home to claim a dominant length-and-a-half victory ahead of G2 winner Star Exhibit.
Bred by Shadwell Stud Australasia, Sense Of Occasion is out of Zabeel mare Saywaan, who is from the family of G1 winner Rewaaya. Sense Of Occasion is the only stakes winner from five foals to race.
Alongside fellow G1 winners Callback, Wedding Toast, and Street Fancy, Sense Of Occasion is one of 21 Group winners for his sire Street Sense.
Street Sense is standing the 2017 season at Jonabell Farm for a fee of $45,000, stands and nurses.
