Sellers ‘blown away’ by American Pharoah’s offspring

While Fasig-Tipton and Keeneland November sales beginning this week feature a number of accomplished racehorses, it’s a select group of those who have yet to start their careers drawing quite a bit of attention.

American Pharoah’s first foals are up for sale in Lexington, Ky., and they’re credited with much of the 2015 Triple Crown winner’s attributes: a solid mind, build and athleticism.

"I am blown away by how good they are," Really McDonald, of Eaten Sales, told BloodHorse.com. "They all have that big shoulder with great depth through the girth. It is unusual to see babies that deep at this point in their lives. They're really athletic, and like ours, they have minds like their dad's. They are all easy to be around.”

The first American Pharoah weanling -- also a half sibling to Bodemeister-- hammered for $1 million as Hip 20 in the Fasig-Tipton sale.

“She has so much scope that you can project forward and see classic form,” sales agent Kerry Cauthen told BloodHorse.com.

How much the weanlings sell for could indicate an even bigger return on those waiting to auction American Pharoah’s first batch of progeny as yearlings.

American Pharoah now stands for an undisclosed fee, primarily at Ashford Stud in Kentucky. He also shuttled to Australia for the southern hemisphere’s breeding season — his book was filled quickly — and is scheduled to return to the United States in December.

According to The Jockey Club’s report of mares bred, the champion covered 208 mares in 2016 and 214 in 2017.
