Seize the Grey seizes the day to capture Pennsylvania Derby
Seize the Grey put his best foot forward on Saturday to win the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing, adding another Grade 1 victory to Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas' already lengthy ledger.
The gray 3-year-old son of Arrogate, ridden by Jaime Torres, broke alertly from post 2 to grab the early lead in the 1 1/8-mile test for 3-year-olds, pressured by Just Step On It and co-5-2 favorite Unmatched Wisdom through early fractions of 49.25 seconds and 1:13.81.

Co-favored Dragoon Guard, widely expected to be on the lead, broke a bit sluggishly and instead found himself midpack in the early running.
Seize the Grey remained in command until the far turn, when Uncle Heavy and Stronghold both announced their presence by making bold bids outside the front-runner.
But Seize the Grey had more left and fended off both challengers after running a mile in 1:39.19. At the wire, it was Seize the Grey stopping the clock in 1:51.89, with Stronghold and Dragoon Guard, who rallied late along the rail, filling out the trifecta.
The winner returned $10.60 on a $2 win ticket.
It was the third graded stakes victory of the year for the MyRacehorse-owed colt, a son of Arrogate, following wins this spring in the Preakness Stakes and Pat Day Mile (G2).
