Secretariat Stakes 2016: Odds and Picks

Tomorrow’s Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes is part of the Arlington Million undercard at Arlington Park. Nine three-year-olds will contest the 1 ¼ miles turf race. For picks, be sure to watch the Race of the Week video featuring Jarrod Horak.

Heading up the field in search of his first stakes victory is Beach Patrol. The Chad Brown trainee was third in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational last time out, but has shown enough progress to earn morning line favoritism. Strong contenders Surgical Strike and Long Island Sound also enter the Secretariat after an effort in the Belmont Derby, where they finished fifth and sixth respectively.

American Patriot has been an improving colt from the Todd Pletcher barn. The son of War Front comes in off an Allowance/Optional claiming win and a victory in the Grade 3 Kent Stakes. Dale Romans will send Cherry Wine back to the turf in the Secretariat. Ninth last time out in the Grade 2 Indiana Derby, Cherry Wine has not run on turf since November of last year, where he finished second in a maiden race.
