Secret File Wins Churchill Downs Feature
Secret File, owned by the Robert and Beverly Lewis Trust, caught Henny’s Hurricane with fewer than 100 yards to go and drew away by a half-length to win Thursday’s $49,920 Beinkampen Cup for fillies and mares at Churchill Downs.
Trained by Charlie Lopresti and ridden by Jon Court, Secret File covered the mile on a fast main track in 1:35.84.
The victory was worth $30,600 and increased the earnings for the 4-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Smart Strike to $59,066 with a record of 7-2-1-3.
The second-longest shot in the field of six, Secret File returned $21.20, $8.20 and $4.40. Henny’s Hurricane, ridden by Manny Cruz, returned $5.40 and $3.80 with Live and Love finishing 8 ½ lengths back in third and paying $3.20 to show under Calvin Borel.
The Pick 6, which had $2,105,465 in the pool after a $514,583 carryover from Derby Day, paid $147,507.20 for a $2 ticket. There were 10 winning tickets, but none were purchased on-track.
The Super Hi-5, which had a $220,430 carryover from Derby Day, was hit in the 10th race and returned $21,089.90 for a $1 wager. The pool swelled to $808,563, and there were 33 winning tickets, including one purchased at Churchill Downs.
