Seaneen Girl All Set for Silverbulletday

Naveed Chowhan’s Seaneen Girl, heroine of the Grade II Golden Rod Stakes at Churchill Downs in her last start Nov. 24, is all set for her return to action in Saturday’s $125,000 Silverbulletday Stakes on Road to the Derby Kickoff Day Presented by Hotel Monteleone at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

The Silverbulletday serves as the first leg of the Crescent City oval’s three-race sophomore filly series that leads to the Grade II Fair Grounds Oaks on Louisiana Derby Day, March 30.

Since the Golden Rod, Seaneen Girl’s trainer Bernie Flint has steadfastly maintained that his chestnut filly would make only two starts in New Orleans before heading back to the Twin Spires oval for the Grade I Kentucky Oaks.

“I only need two races for her down here before we go back to Louisville,” Flint said Tuesday morning during training hours. “The track has been really good since we got here so she has come around really quickly. I didn’t breeze her again this morning because it wasn’t quite as good as it has been, but we galloped her a mile last week (Jan. 8) and they gave her a bullet (48.20) for the half. How much better can you get?”

Should Seaneen Girl win this year’s Fair Grounds Oaks, she would be in a position to become the second straight Fair Grounds Oaks winner to parlay that score to another in the Kentucky Oaks May 3.

Brereton Jones’s Believe You Can accomplished that prestigious “Oaks Double” last season, notably after first winning last year’s Silverbulletday, and it is also worthy of note that five of the last eight Fair Grounds Oaks winners have gone on to win the Kentucky Oaks on the day before the Kentucky Derby.

SILVERBULLETDAY STAKES ATTRACTING SIMMS’ BROTHERHOOD SINGER

Brotherhood Singer, who finished third in Fair Grounds’ $60,000 Letellier Memorial Dec. 22, will be Simms’ candidate for Saturday’s $125,000 Silverbulletday Stakes as the first local prep for the Grade II Fair Grounds Oaks on Louisiana Derby Day, March 30.

FLASHY CAMPAIGN GETS TUESDAY BREEZE FOR SILVERBULLETDAY STAKES

Jerry Namy’s Flashy Campaign, who broke her maiden at first asking at Fair Grounds on Nov. 25, breezed five furlongs Tuesday morning over a track rated “good” in  1:03 flat in advance of Saturday’s $125,000 Silverbulletday Stakes. The Tom Amoss trainee suffered from a troubled trip when the runner-up in her second career appearance on Dec. 28.
