Sean Avery Will Reside at Old Friends

Sean Avery, a grade I winner at Saratoga Race Course, has been retired from racing and will reside at Old Friends near Georgetown, Ky. The 7-year-old Cherokee Run gelding, who finished fifth at Gulfstream Park Feb. 6 in his final start for owner Black Swan Stable, is expected to arrival at the equine retirement home in mid-March.

"He's a tough little guy and the kind of hard-knocking horse that you really can like," said Old Friends founder Michael Blowen. "The Black Swan people are going to make a generous contribution to Old Friends in support of his retirement. He's named after National Hockey League player Sean Avery, and we hope to get him to come here when the horse arrives."

Black Swan racing manager John DeStefano bought Sean Avery as agent for Steven Schoenfeld for $30,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale from Brookdale Sales, agent.
