Schoolofhardrocks Tries Out Turf Mile in City of Hope

Schoolofhardrocks tries eight furlongs on turf for the first time in Saturday’s Grade II, $200,000 City of Hope Mile for 3-year-olds and up, a race David Hofmans hopes will lead to the Breeders’ Cup Mile on Nov. 1.
“He’s doing great,” the trainer said of 3-year-old son of Rock Hard Ten owned by John and Jerry Amerman. “He worked well here the other day and he likes this turf course a lot. He runs well over it and has had two good races over it.”
Schoolofhardrocks is coming off two fourth-place finishes in Grade III grass stakes, the American Derby at Arlington Park and the La Jolla Handicap at Del Mar.
