Saturday’s 9th race from Santa Anita Park (3-24-18) is the Grade 2 San Luis Rey Stakes for 4-year-olds and up traveling a mile and a half on the turf course.
#8 COLONIST (10-1) tries a marathon for the first time, and he runs like he might enjoy more ground. The four-year-old colt exits a turf win, has only started ten times, and Flavien Prat sticks with the interesting longshot.
#2 Itsinthepost (6-5) won this race at 6-1 odds last year, and since that effort, he has captured four of eight graded turf routes.
#9 Hayabusa One finished a nose behind Itsinthepost in the Grade 2 San Marcos at ten furlongs last time. This is the longest race of his career, but he is sharp and improving, and might be up to the task.
#6 Aquaphobia (10-1) got up by a neck to defeat lesser nine furlong foes at Santa Anita Feb. 4. He is a consistent turf route performer for quality trainer Robert Falcone, Jr.
THE PLAYS:
#8 to win
Exacta 8/2-9
Exacta 2-9/8
Trifecta 2-9/ALL/6-8
