Workouts: Muth, Adare Manor are among 53 graded winners
Grade 1 winners Muth and Adare Manor each worked Saturday towards potential starts in next weekend's $1 million Pacific Classic (G1) at Del Mar.
Muth, who hasn't started since winning the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby March 30, drilled five furlongs in 58.4 seconds. It was the fastest 76 works at the distance at Del Mar.
Adare Manor, recent winner of the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch at Del Mar, was clocked working six furlongs in 1:12.4. It was the second-fastest of seven works at the distance.
“She went well,” Baffert said afterward.
Baffert this week told Del Mar publicity both Muth and Adare Manor, a 5-year-old mare, are candidates to run in the 1 1/4-mile Pacific Classic next Saturday. Adare Manor has never raced against males.
“I always said I was going to leave the door open so I nominated her to give me options," Baffert said of Adare Manor. "I nominate in a lot of places, it doesn’t mean I’m going to run. But if you’re nominated you can get an idea of how the races shape up, how horses are doing.
“We’ll see how they are tomorrow. I’ll have to have a pow-wow with the clients and then decide what we’re going to do.”
