Saturday works: Breeders' Cup runner-up Bentornato returns

Bentornato, unraced since finishing second by half a length in the Breeders' Cup Sprint, worked Saturday morning for the first time since December. The Jose D'Angelo trainee worked three furlongs in 36.25 seconds, seventh fastest of 51 at the distance. A millionaire who has never been worse than third in nine career starts, he broke through in the Grade 2 Gallant Bob in September before his runner-up outing at Del Mar.

Reigning horse of the year Thorpedo Anna worked Saturday at Churchill Downs, her first drill in two weeks. Trained by Kenny McPeek, she went four furlongs in 48.2 seconds over the Churchill Downs dirt. It was her third work since La Troienne (G1) on the Kentucky Oaks undercard May 2, a race in which she finished seventh as the odds-on favorite.
