Saturday workouts: Anisette is 1 of 40 graded winners on tab

Turf specialist Anisette, who is 2-for-2 this year with her pair of graded-stakes victories, had a maintenance workout Saturday morning ahead of a possible start next weekend in the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes at Del Mar.

The three-time Grade 1 winner went a half-mile in 49.2 seconds on the fast main track at Del Mar. Owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and trained by Leonard Powell, it was the 4-year-old filly’s first timed work since she won the Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2) three weeks ago.

Anisette, who won the Gamely (G1) in May, also has been mentioned for the Rodeo Drive (G2) on Oct. 5 at Santa Anita ahead of a possible start Nov. 2 in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Del Mar

Anisette (Awtaad), a three-time Grade 1 winner (2024 Gamely, 2023 American Oaks, 2023 Del Mar Oaks), worked four furlongs in 49.2 seconds at Del Mar on Saturday morning. It was the 74th fastest of 107 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start she won the Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Aug. 10 for trainer Leonard Powell.

Whitebeam (Caravaggio), a two-time Grade 1 winner (2024 Diana, 2023 Diana), worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Saratoga. It was the eighth fastest of 34 works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start she won the Diana (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Saratoga on July 13 for trainer Chad Brown.

Blazing Sevens (Good Magic), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Champagne), worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Belmont Park. It was the 12th fastest of 116 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed fourth in an allowance race going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Saratoga on July 11 for Brown.

Carl Spackler (Lope de Vega), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Fourstardave Handicap), worked four furlongs in 50.4 seconds at Saratoga. It was the 18th fastest of 34 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he won the Fourstardave Handicap (G1) going one mile on the turf at Saratoga on Aug. 11 for Brown.

Hard to Justify (Justify), a Grade 1 winner (2023 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf), worked three furlongs in 38.8 seconds at Niall Brennan Stables. It was the sixth fastest of seven works at the distance. Her previous work was 98 days ago going four furlongs at Fair Hill. In her last start she placed ninth in the Edgewood (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Churchill Downs on May 3 for Brown.

Highland Chief (Gleneagles), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Man o’ War), worked five furlongs in 1:02.4 at Fair Hill. It was the sixth fastest of 10 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed sixth in the Arlington Million (G1) going 1 1/4 miles on the turf at Colonial Downs on Aug. 11 for trainer Graham Motion.

Johannes (Nyquist), a Grade 1 winner (2024 Shoemaker Mile), worked five furlongs in 59.8 seconds at Del Mar. It was the sixth fastest of 55 works at the distance.
