Saturday spill leads Santa Anita to move 3 races off turf
The last three turf races Saturday at Santa Anita were moved to the main track, and it apparently had nothing to do with the fair weather.
Track management made the decision after 6-year-old gelding Midnight Jostar slipped and fell at the top of the stretch in the Charles Whittingham Stakes (G2) midway through the card.

Midnight Jostar, trained by Phil D’Amato, got up and ran loose before being collared by an outrider. He and jockey Kent Desormeaux were reported to be OK, according to a report on FanDuel TV. Desormeaux was replaced on his only remaining ride after the spill.
The Monrovia Stakes and two allowance races were affected by the change as was the late Pick 6, which began after the switch was announced.
Six of the 11 races carded for Sunday were scheduled to be on the turf course, but there was no immediate indication whether they would stay there or be moved to the main track. The John Shear Stakes, a downhill-turf sprint, is one of the races that could be affected.
