Saratoga Special entrant Dazzle d'Oro dies after training injury
Dazzle d'Oro, an impressive debut winner at Churchill Downs who was entered in Saturday's Grade 2 Saratoga Special, was fatally injured during training Monday morning at Saratoga.
The injury was announced Monday morning by trainer Tom Amoss, who conditioned Dazzle d'Oro for owner Late Night Stables. "He received immediate attention and was sent to Rood & Riddle Equine hospital a mile away from the race track, but due to the severity of the injury we were left with no humane alternative and he was euthanized to prevent further suffering," Amoss said.
Dazzle d'Oro was a 2-year-old colt by Bold d'Oro out of the First Defence mare Sunnysammi, a stakes-placed turf sprinter. He debuted June 29 in a six-furlong maiden special weight at Churchill Downs. Sent off the favorite in a field of 11, he led at every call and crossed the wre three lengths clear of Blackout Time, who was another 7 1/4 lengths clear of the rest of the field. On the strength of that win, he had been named the 5-2 morning-line third choice in the Saratoga Special behind Sanford Stakes (G3) winner Obliteration and Saratoga maiden winner Ewing.
