Saratoga picks: NYSS Stakes sets up for Six Percent at a price
A select play for Wednesday's seventh race, part of the New York Stallion Series Stakes. Post time is 4:32 p.m. ET.
The $150,000 restricted New York Stallion Series stakes for 3-year-olds features a field of 10 that is full of speed types.
#1 Dark Money (10-1) and #5 Blindwillie McTell (5-1) are switching from dirt sprints to a turf route and look like they will force the pace here.
In addition, #2, #3, #4, #6, #7 and #9 all look to show speed in here. That not only guarantees a solid pace but leaves very few closers around to pick up the pieces.
This creates a great scenario, where it sets up extremely well for off-the-pace types, although there aren't many of those.
The mostly likely beneficiary of this scenario is #8 SIX PERCENT (9-2). The Brad Cox trainee runs well from off the pace and comes off a 1 1/4-length win going one mile on the Belmont main track. The son of Central Banker makes his turf debut here, but his dam Snuggs and Kisses is a three-time winner over the grass, and both of her foals are winners on the turf.
The recommended play: $10 to win and place on #8 Six Percent at odds of 3-1 or higher.
