Saratoga 2024: Loose horses Thursday are feeling fine Friday

Both Whatintheliteral, who unseated Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano at the break, and Slang, who got loose after being pulled up by jockey Ricardo Santana Jr., were said to be in good shape Friday after they failed to finish the Schuylerville Stakes on opening day at Saratoga.

Whatintheliteral walked home under her own power after she completed the course Thursday and was collared by an outrider. Trainer Jena Antonucci reported the 2-year-old Lord Nelson filly came out of the Schuylerville in good order and likely will be pointed to the Grade 2 Adirondack on Aug. 4.

After being dismounted, Castellano went to the first-aid center at Saratoga on Thursday and was cleared to ride Friday.

Whatintheliteral is owned by Katie Miranda and Antonucci’s horseOlogy Racing and by Craig Steinhart.

Slang was vanned off after she also finished her lap around the main track and was caught by an outrider. Trainer Norm Casse reported the Omaha Beach filly was in good order Friday morning.

“It just looked like she lost her action behind for a second, and Ricardo pulled her up quickly,” Casse said. “She’s 100 percent sound this morning, so everything is good.”
