Saratoga: Friday is canceled; weekend turf stakes will be Sunday

The heavy rain and strong wind brought up the East Coast by tropical storm Debby forced the New York Racing Association to cancel Friday’s live races and to move two Grade 1 turf races to Sunday.

The $500,000 Fourstardave (G1) and $600,000 Saratoga Derby Invitational (G1), which had been carded for Saturday, will be run instead as the last two races Sunday, and they will not be part of the late multi-race exotic wagers. The Fourstardave will be at about 6:16 p.m. EDT and the Saratoga Derby at 6:49 p.m.

Friday’s co-featured $125,000 Evan Shipman and $125,000 Union Avenue will be rescheduled.

Live racing is slated to resume Saturday at Saratoga with first post at 12:35 p.m. EDT. What had been a 12-race card has been reduced to 10.

Saratoga will be closed to the public Friday, and breakfast and track tours will not be offered. Fans in possession of Friday tickets are entitled to either a full refund or credit for a future purchase and will be contacted directly by the NYRA sales office. Tickets bought through third-party sites are not eligible for a refund from NYRA, so customers must contact those vendors with their questions.
