Saratoga Allowance Attracts Kinda Spicy

Kinda Spicy, an eye-catching debut winner of a one-mile maiden event at Belmont Park on June 19, will make her first start against winners in tomorrow’s ninth race, a 1 1/8-mile entry-level allowance for fillies and mares.

Should the 3-year-old Darley homebred run well tomorrow, her next start could come in the Grade 1 TVG Alabama on August 20, trainer Tom Albertrani said.

“I thought the way she ran the first time, she could have gone 1 1/8 miles that day,” said Albertrani. “She’s bred to go long and she galloped out nicely.”

Although the 3-year-old filly division is contentious, Albertrani believes Kinda Spicy could rise to the occasion against the likes of TVG Acorn and TVG Coaching Club American Oaks winner and recent Darley-to-Godolphin transfer It’s Tricky, Kentucky Oaks winner and TVG Coaching Club American Oaks runner-up Plum Pretty, and Black-Eyed Susan heroine and TVG Coaching Club American Oaks third-place finisher Royal Delta.

“With the way she ran the first time, I’m just being optimistic and thinking she can certainly fit well with that group,” said Albertrani. “Naturally, we have to go through her allowance condition and make sure she just wasn’t a one-hit wonder.”
